Giving you the benefit
The benefits outlined below have been expressly designed to offer you maximum coverage at the minimum cost. However,they are accompanied by certain terms and conditions which it would greatly benefit you to familiarise yourself with.
This 24-hour assistance service applies to the specific passenger vehicle(s), 4x4 vehicle(s) or light commercial vehicle(s) (less than 1.5 tons) registered for Club McCarthy membership. It covers you in the event of the following occurring within the borders of the RSA.
we will arrange and pay to have your vehicle started, where possible. Repeat assistance is available only if you have not had the opportunity to replace the battery because of retail battery outlets not being open on the same day. Where a replacement battery is required, the towing cost will be covered and regarded as an electrical breakdown – subject to the limits set out in the LIMITATION OF BENEFITS TABLE. The cost of the battery is for your own account.
We will arrange and pay for you to have the spare tyre put onto your vehicle. This service excludes costs for the repair of a tyre, parts, and wheel balancing or similar charges. Where there is no spare tyre and/or tyre change equipment (including special wheel nuts) in the vehicle, a tow-in can be arranged. The cost of this tow-in will be for your own account.
We will send someone to assist you with 10 litres of fuel. The cost of fuel will be for your account. It is important that you ensure that you advise us of the exact type of fuel that your vehicle takes as Club McCarthy cannot be held responsible for the incorrect fuel being put into your vehicle.
We will arrange and pay for a locksmith to open your vehicle, where this is possible. This service excludes all parts, components, keys or key-cutting costs, or other similar charges.
In the event of the keys not being able to be retrieved from your car, such as smart card or gears locked, the towing cost is for your account. Where keys have broken off in the door or ignition, our contribution to the cost is subject to the limits set out in the LIMITATION OF BENEFITS TABLE. In the event of the service provider being unable to resolve the problem where it occurred the cost for any additional assistance are for your account.
We will arrange and pay for your vehicle to be towed to the nearest approved dealership, when necessary. All cost of repairs to your vehicle is for your account. Subject to limits
Where a vehicle needs to be towed to a repairer and the incident has occurred within 100 kilometres of your residence, we will arrange courtesy transport (ie, a taxi) to a nominated destination. You must pay the cost upfront and may then claim back the cost subject to the limit set out in the LIMITATIONS OF BENEFITS TABLE.
If required due to overnight delay, we will arrange and pay up to the limit on the benefits table for the safe storage of the vehicle. In the event of a breakdown more than 100 kilometres from your normal place of residence you have the following additional benefits, available only if the towing is arranged via the Club McCarthy call centre.
We will arrange and refund you on receipt of the invoice up to the amount specified in the benefits table towards the cost of collecting the vehicle and returning it to your normal place of residence after the repair has been effected.
In the event of a breakdown more than 100 kilometres from your normal place of residence, platinum members have the following additional benefits available only if the towing is arranged via the Club McCarthy assistance call centre.
Where a breakdown has occurred, resulting in an overnight delay, we will arrange and refund the member on receipt of the invoice up to the amount specified in the benefits table towards:
- Overnight accommodation for driver and occupants (maximum of 5 persons) OR
- 24-hour car rental (valid driver's license and credit card required) OR
- Taxi, bus or air transport to return home.
This 24-hour home emergency assistance service applies to your normal place of residence and is available when there is an emergency requiring the assistance of the following fields of expertise.
- Electrician
- Plumber
- Locksmith
- Glazier
Please note:
The benefits referred to above are subject to the LIMITATION OF BENEFITS TABLE . Please refer to the table to ascertain what these are. You will find the table under the membership options tab.
Also please take note that:
Invoices for repairs not attended to on instruction of the Club McCarthy call centre will not be paid for or refunded to you.
- Emergency repairs will only be undertaken at your permanent residence.
- Electrical and plumbing services exclude jacuzzis, swimming pools, borehole pumps, air conditioners, commercial refrigerators, leak detection inspections and repairs not complying with regulated specifications such as SANS and others.
- Locksmith refers to the emergency call out of a locksmith to retrieve keys broken off or lost for a main entrance or exit of the house. The benefit also applies if a child has locked him or herself in.
- The locksmith service excludes burglary incidents – in such cases, you will be assisted at your own expense, reclaimable from your insurer or homeowner's policy. Outbuildings and padlocks are also excluded.
- The locksmith service does not extend to ordinary maintenance (wear and tear) or replacements.

Medical Assistance
This 24-hour medical emergency line in association with NETCARE 911 offers response and assistance in certain medical emergency situations as described in the LIMITATION OF BENEFITS TABLE. Professional, qualified medical personnel will assist to ensure that the most appropriate emergency service is dispatched. As a Club McCarthy member you and your immediate family (living with you) will receive emergency medical response as described in the LIMITATION OF BENEFITS TABLE to the scene of a medical emergency – such as a motor accident.
- This cover includes appropriate medical transportation to the closest, most appropriate facility.
- You and your immediate family are covered for repatriation (within the borders of SA) or return of mortal remains to an appropriate facility at your normal place of residence after an accident.
- Arrangements will be made for companionship or care of stranded minors subject to the benefits table.
- You also have access to 24-hour emergency telephonic medical information and advice, as well as general medical information.
- After a traumatic incident, you and your immediate family have 24-hour access to telephonic trauma counselling and advice as well as approved specialised rape crisis centres.

- When calling the call centre, ensure that your query is directed efficiently. Please listen carefully to the voice prompts and select the option relevant to your query.
- All emergency assistance must be arranged through the Club McCarthy call centre in order to qualify for the benefit. In an emergency, contact the call centre on 0861 293 329 and quote your membership number . Save this number and your membership number to your cell phone or write it down in a place that you will have easy and immediate access to at all times. Failure to do this will mean that you will have to pay for the assistance!
